What Can Osteopathy do for you?
Osteopathy and Arthritis
Do you suffer pain from arthritic joints? Well you can get relief from this pain in some cases with Osteopathic treatment. This treatment will not cure the arthritis but it can help improve movement and allow you to do things that were previously painful. So osteopathy can improve your quality of life.
I will give one example of a patient who was sent to me by his wife, that's right, he was not happy to be there because he felt there was nothing that could be done ( and to be honest after I took his history nor was I sure we could help). He was 74 and had had a painfully stiff neck for the last 7 years, and had been told it was arthritis by the Doctor. Every time he turned his head fully he had pain in the neck. Having thoroughly examined him we decided he was suitable for treatment and he agreed to try 5 visits. The first 4 times he felt no change but on the 5th he said he was a little improved; I saw him a further 5 times with small improvements after each treatment, and when he stopped treatment, he had no pain on head movement, (this movement was still quite limited) but as it gave him no pain he was delighted. I continued to see his wife for her chronic problem and she reported that for the next 9 months the pain stayed away.
Other arthritic joints can benefit from treatment, often when your told by the doctor there is nothing you can do except take painkillers. Come and see an osteopath even if it is just for a consultation to see if we can help.
