What Can Osteopathy do for you?
Can Osteopathy help with Sports Injuries?
Yes, we are very suited to understanding the special biomechanics required for specific sports and thus very often able to work out why certain injuries occur when they are not due to trauma. Patients tend to think sports injury needs physiotherapy but because we specialise in looking at the underlying cause of mechanical problems we can often help prevent recurring problems.
I have always played a lot of sport, notably Rugby for Rosslyn Park in the equivalent of the Premier division with my share of injuries to boot. Also I have worked for 2 years with Solent Stars basket ball team dealing with the particular problems arising from being the 6'8"!
Recently a top runner presented having had persistent groin injuries that various physios and doctors had been unable to help. After taking a detailed history of previous injuries and a thorough exam it was found that she had sprained her ankle 2 years ago and the alignment had never been corrected. This was causing an imbalance at the pelvis and the sacroiliac joint was the actual source of the groin pain. Only 3 treatments were needed and having called back 3 months later, the problem has not returned despite full training being resumed.
